On Friday, September 14, 2012, David Sidoo and nine other remarkable members of the South Asian community in Vancouver were recognized in the 3rd annual DARPAN Magazine Extraordinary Achievement Awards for their achievements and contributions to the community and to Canadian society overall.

The 2012 awards event was a gala affair with more than 700 people in attendance at the Royal King Palace and Convention Centre in Surrey, BC.

David was honoured to receive the Advancing Philanthropy award, which was presented by the Honourable Ravi Shankar Aisola, Consul General of India. Part of what makes this award so special is that the recipients are nominated by the DARPAN Magazine readership – members of the South Asian community.

DARPAN Magazine is a Canadian publication that serves the South Asian populous in Canada, including those who originate from India, Pakistan, Nepal and those who have roots from the Indian sub-continent. The inaugural DARPAN Magazine Extraordinary Achievement Awards event took place three years ago with the intention of showcasing individuals accomplishing extraordinary achievements in the South Asian community that embody the magazine’s vision, “When individuals are empowered to succeed; the community as a whole prospers.” From DARPAN Magazine:

In 2010, DARPAN Magazine created a glamorous annual reader-voted Extraordinary Achievement Awards night to highlight the extraordinary achievements of ordinary South Asians. DARPAN Magazine asked readers to nominate agents of change striving for the betterment of South Asians in ten categories that included charitable work, volunteerism, and/or community involvement—individuals who are working hard to make this a better world for South Asians.

This award is a great honour for David and will undoubtedly help to further his wish to inspire others to give their time, talent or treasure to their communities.
