Freestyle Digital Media, Freestyle Releasing and Stryker Entertainment have picked up U.S. theatrical and VOD rights to “The Devil’s Violinist,” starring violinist David Garrett.
The film, set for release Jan. 30 on Super Bowl weekend, centers on 19th century Italian violinist and composer Niccolo Paganini. Garrett is making his acting debut alongside Jared Harris, Joely Richardson and Christian McKay.
Bernard Rose directed from his own script. Producers are Gabriela Bacher for Summerstorm Entertainment, Rosilyn Heller, Danny Krausz and Filmhouse Germany’s Christian Angermayer.
The film is set in 1830, when violin virtuoso and womanizer Paganini is at the peak of his career. A battle for power ensues when he is lured to London against his will and takes a liking to his host’s daughter, played by Andrea Deck.
Garrett exec produced and wrote the score with Franck van der Heijden.
The deal was negotiated by Chris Charalambous for Freestyle Releasing, Dylan Sidoo of Stryker Entertainment and Beta Cinema’s Dirk Schuerhoff.
